Sharing & Your Data
Your budget belongs to you: shareable with one other person, exportable at any time, and deletable on demand.
Sharing With a Partner
A budget that only one person in a household can see isn’t really the household’s budget. Settings > Sharing invites a second person by email.
They get their own sign-in - their own password, their own session - and see the same budget, accounts and transactions you do. Both of you can edit.
They are not billed. One subscription covers the household; a partner does not need their own. One additional person can be invited.
Remove access at any time from the same page. Removing someone doesn’t remove anything they entered - the data was always the household’s.
Sharing is part of the subscription.
Exporting
Settings > Data has three exports:
| Export | What you get |
|---|---|
| Transactions (CSV) | One row per transaction: date, description, category, Maslow level, type, amount, account |
| Workbook (Excel) | Multi-sheet workbook covering your plan and transactions |
| Report (PDF) | A formatted summary for reading or filing |
Export is free and always available, subscription or not. If you stop paying, you can still take everything with you. That’s deliberate: leaving should never be the hard part.
The CSV is the one to keep as a backup - it’s plain text, it will still open in thirty years, and it isn’t locked to this app.
For a report scoped to a date range or grouped a particular way, use the CSV export on Reports instead.
Starting Over
The same page offers Start the plan over, which clears your plan so you can rebuild it. It asks for confirmation first.
Export before you do this. There’s no undo.
What Happens If You Stop Paying
Nothing is deleted and nothing is charged. Syncing and the assisted features stop; your data stays exactly where it is, and you can export all of it at any time.
Privacy
- Your data lives in your account, on our servers - that’s what makes it reachable from any device you sign in from. The full Privacy Policy lists everything stored and every outside service involved.
- Your data is yours. It isn’t sold, it isn’t used to advertise to you, and it isn’t used to train AI models.
- Bank connections are read-only and go through SimpleFIN - Hierarchy Budget never sees your bank credentials. See Bank Sync.
- Exploring an example budget never touches your real data. Example edits live in that browser tab and disappear when you close it.
