Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using Hierarchy Budget, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.
Description of Service
Hierarchy Budget is a financial planning tool. It is offered as:
- Example budgets - free, no account. Six fictional households you can open and use the whole app with. Your edits stay in your browser tab and are not saved anywhere.
- Your own budget - account required. Creating an account starts a 7-day trial, with no card required. Your data is stored in your account so it’s available on any device you sign in from.
- Subscription - $120 per year. Annual only. It covers syncing across devices, automatic bank feeds, AI-assisted statement and receipt reading, and a second person in your household at no extra charge.
Current pricing and what’s included are listed at app.hierarchybudget.com/pricing. We may change pricing; a change won’t alter the term you’ve already paid for.
Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account, and you are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for activity under your account. If you invite a second person to your household, they get read and write access to your budget until you remove them.
Billing and Cancellation
Subscriptions are billed annually through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from Settings, through the Stripe portal, and you keep access through the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
When a trial or subscription ends, nothing is deleted and nothing is charged. Syncing and the assisted features stop; your data stays where it is and export keeps working.
Data
- Your data is yours. See our Privacy Policy for what we store and who else touches it.
- Export is free and always available, subscription or not - CSV, Excel and PDF.
- Deletion. You can clear your plan from Settings, or email support to have your account and its data deleted.
- Backups. We keep backups of the database, and we recommend you keep your own exports too. We don’t guarantee against data loss.
Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes, not to attempt to gain unauthorized access to it or to other users’ data, and not to interfere with its operation.
Third-Party Services
Some features depend on outside services - SimpleFIN for bank data, Google’s Gemini for AI-assisted reading, Stripe for payment, Postmark for email. Their availability isn’t within our control, and using those features means your data passes through them as described in the Privacy Policy.
Disclaimers
Hierarchy Budget is a planning tool, not financial advice. You are responsible for your own financial decisions. We do not provide investment, tax, or legal advice.
The Service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. Figures shown - projections, debt payoff dates, net worth, forecasts - are estimates produced from the numbers you enter, and imported or synced transactions can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything you intend to act on.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms; the effective date above tells you when they last changed.
